Let’s check out vital records: Unfortunately birth, death, marriage and divorce records can not be found all in the same place. To check out vital records you will need to do a little digging. These records hold valuable information that will help you in your research. To check out vital records in the United States you will need to know in which state the event happened. Each state had the responsibility to register these events. To start, your best bet is to check out vital records that are the most recent which in most cases would be a death record. These records will most likely be easier to find, easier to obtain and could end up being beneficial. You see, in most places vital records are protected by privacy laws and most commonly the birth record. The reason for this is due to the fact that birth records could reveal adoption; illegitimacy and they also can be misused for fraudulent identities. In certain states, if you already hold the death record, it could make obtaining for a birth record much easier. When you check out vital records you need to keep in mind that not all states where required to register these records at the same time. The state of Massachusetts was required to maintain these records in 1841 while the state of Illinois wasn’t required to maintain them until 1916. Check out required vital records state wide. Death records can be helpful when it is the only record that exists for an individual who were born and or married before state registration was required. They are also helpful in determining the place and date of death. Besides the date, time and cause of death, the information on the death record should be considered secondary. Because of the fact that the informant may not have known the deceased very well and or may have a faulty memory. When you check out vital records for marriage the most helpful information you will find is the bride’s maiden name. It is of course documented proof that a couple was legally married and sometimes may include the names of the couple’s parents.
